How To Get Extra Coins in 'Super Mario Run': Coin Event Runs Through Jan. 26

For a limited time, Super Mario Go users who bought the game over the holidays will have an easy way to stock up on coins. Until Jan. 26, users who win in the game's Toad Rally mode will be able to earn 1.5 times as many coins during the "Loads of Coins" event.

In Toad Rally, two players use in-game Rally tickets to compete in speed trial runs through levels in the game and try to earn more coins. Players who win the competition can also earn Toads for their kingdom, which allows them to unlock additional buildings and in-game features. Players who lose games during the promotion will still earn the same amount of coins they would've normally earned.

Despite being Nintendo's first major step into the mobile games arena, Super Mario Run has had some struggles to maintain momentum since its December 2016 launch. With a comparatively large price tag of $9.99, the game's download numbers and popularity have waivered since its launch, but a slated 2017 launch for Android users could boost the user base for Nintendo's mobile title.
