Prince William and Kate Middleton’s home life was surprising to one very important member of their family: Queen Elizabeth II. One year ago, it was revealed that the reigning monarch was shocked by a decision made by the Duke of Duchess of Cambridge during her first visit to their Anmer Hall home in Norfolk, England.

“When the Queen visited the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Anmer Hall for the first time, she couldn’t get her head around the fact the kitchen is the main base for them,” the source told Express at the time. “For the Queen, she can't stand that because she is used to having a set room for that sort of thing.”

The source said the Queen “never” goes to her kitchen when visiting her summer home because “in her mind, that is where all the kitchen staff work.”

The insider added that the different lifestyle choice shows how “very modern” William and Kate are when it comes to the royal family.

It wasn’t just their reported decision to socialize in their kitchen that sets them apart from the Queen. The outlet reported that the Duke and Duchess also differ due to their speculated decision not to host as many staff members.

“Of course, they have their help: the nanny and the housekeeper,” said the source. “However, they don’t have the same level of staff as Prince Charles or the Queen.”
