Meghan Markle’s New Year’s resolution changed months before she met Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex used to maintain her own blog The Tig before she joined the royal family. In one of her entries, the former “Suits” star shared her New Year’s resolutions which included running a marathon, stopping herself from swearing and biting her nails, and re-learning French. However, she also admitted that she wasn’t good in keeping them, People reported.

“The marathon hasn’t happened. The swearing comes in lulls triggered by being overworked or feeling mighty cheeky after a couple drinks,” Markle wrote.

Prince Harry’s wife added that she also tried to re-learn French because she wanted to do interviews in français. She listened to different recordings but much to her chagrin, nothing stuck.

For her New Year’s resolution in 2016, Markle tried a different approach. She announced that, “This year, I resolve not to have a resolution.” Instead, she wanted to approach life “playfully.”

Markle wanted to laugh and enjoy life. She also added that she would keep her standards high and her level of self-acceptance higher.

“My New Year’s resolution is to leave room for magic. To make my plans, and be okay if they sometimes break. To set my goals, but to be open to change,” Markle added.

Less than six months after she pledged to “leave room for magic,” Markle met Prince Harry on a blind date. During their engagement interview, the couple confirmed that they met through a mutual friend and they had back-to-back dates in London. However, they didn’t name their matchmaker in a bid to protect her privacy.

According to E! News, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s matchmaker is Violet von Westenholz. She is Prince Harry’s childhood friend. British journalist Adam Helliker also revealed that she was “quietly pleased” that Prince Harry and Markle ended up together.

Prince Harry and Markle had a fairytale royal wedding in May 2018. A few weeks before their wedding anniversary, the couple welcomed their firstborn, Archie.

Prince Harry and Markle celebrated Christmas and New Year in Canada. However, some criticized their decision to not spend the holidays with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip and called them “inconsiderate” and “selfish.”
