Queen Elizabeth II certainly plays an important part in the British royal family. From granting unique permission to certain family members to approving Archie's name, the monarch has quite a bit to do with many facets of royal life. In fact, Her Majesty is said to play a very important role behind the scenes of every royal wedding. What is it?

According to Express, the Queen provides a "traditional gift" for every ceremony. In the past, this has included donating gold from her personal collection that is used in order to create the wedding rings.

Specifically, the rings are created from Welsh gold, which the royal family has been using since 1923 in their jewelry. The rings of Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, Princess Anne, Princess Diana, and the Queen Mother were, in fact, all created from the same Welsh gold nugget.

This unique tradition has continued up to the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding on May 19, 2018. Even though Prince Harry ultimately opted for a platinum ring, the Duchess of Sussex was given a ring with the special aforementioned gold in it.

It remains to be seen if this tradition will continue with Princess Beatrice's ring, as many details surrounding the piece have not yet been publicly revealed. However, it has been rumored that Meghan Markle played a role in choosing her engagement ring.
