The members of the royal family have broken the royal protocol at some point in their lives.

Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Princess Diana, Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry have carried out their royal roles well. However, there were few instances when they gave in to the public even if it meant going against the rules that the Firm upholds and Hello! magazine compiled these events.

Queen Elizabeth II

Her Majesty surprised the world when a Machester United football fan inside the Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia approached her to sign a football.

“She didn't know what to do so I just helped to hold the ball. This is a fantastic honour for Manchester United,” Sir Bobby Charlton.

Normally, the royals are prohibited from signing autographs because of the risks that it might be forged.

Prince Charles

The Prince of Wales broke the same protocol in 2010 when he signed an autograph for a victim of devastating floods. However, he didn’t really give away his signature as the future king only wrote “Charles 2010” on the paper.

Princess Diana

Traditionally, royal engagement rings are custom-made. However, the late Princess of Wales picked her own engagement ring from a collection made by Garrard jewelry. The iconic sapphire ring is passed down to the Duchess of Cambridge.

Prince William and Kate Middleton

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge aren’t as tactile as Prince Harry and Markle. However, in the 2012 Olympics, the couple caused a stir when they were photographed hugging. Royal commentator Emily Nash defended Prince William and Middleton saying that they don’t really engage in PDAs but their sweet gestures instantly come in light-hearted moments.

“We know they are very affectionate and that sometimes comes across during more light-hearted moments, at sporting events or similar, but you wouldn't expect them to put that on show while in more formal situations,” Nash explained.

Prince William and Middleton broke another protocol when they arrived late at an Easter church service. It was reportedly due to traffic. Normally, the members of the Firm arrive in order of rank with the Queen arriving last. But at that event, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived last.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex broke the protocol when it comes to packing on PDA. Since Prince Harry and Markle stepped out for the first time, they couldn’t keep their hands from each other. In addition, they broke the protocol by agreeing to have a selfie with their fan.
