Doctor Who Season 10 in movie theaters
“Doctor Who” Season 10, episode 1 will be shown in movie theaters along with the first episode of the spinoff “Class.” BBC America

“Doctor Who” fans will be watching the Season 10 premiere on their TV screens Saturday night, but they’ll be able to see it on the big screen next week! Season 10, episode 1, titled “The Pilot,” will have special screenings in movie theaters across the country.

The “Doctor Who” screenings will take place on April 17 and 19 at 7 p.m. local time. Check out Fathom Events to find locations and ticket information.

So why would Whovians pay to see what was already on TV? Well, there’s more than just the episode of course. In addition to experiencing the premiere among a huge group of fans, the screening also includes special footage.

An exclusive featurette called “Becoming The Companion” will show Pearl Mackie’s transition from stage actress to the newest friend of the Doctor. The first episode of the spinoff “Class,” which features an appearance from Capaldi, will be shown as well.

This isn’t the first time “Doctor Who” has hit the big screen. In fact, it’s become somewhat of a tradition. The last few premieres and Christmas specials were shown in theaters after they premiered on TV. It seems Whovians enjoy the chance to gather together and see the TARDIS on the big screen.

“Doctor Who” Season 10 is going to be a big one. Not only will it introduce a new companion, which is always exciting, but it will be Peter Capaldi’s send off. The Twelfth Doctor will regenerate soon. No replacement has been announced yet.

Before Capaldi leaves the TARDIS, however, he’ll fight some familiar foes. As previously reported, the Mondasian Cybermen will be brought back for the finale. The Daleks will also make a return, as per usual. Surprisingly, John Simms will also come back for “Doctor Who” Season 10 as the Master. His new form, Missy (Michelle Gomez) will still be around too, so expect double the trouble.

“Doctor Who” Season 10 premieres on BBC America Saturday at 9 p.m. EST. Tickets for the April 17 and April 19 showings in theaters are available now.
