Right before she gave birth in the elevator, Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza) received a call from someone that prompted her to go to the office party where her friends are trying to steal sensitive information that could destroy her father’s company.

But who was that mystery caller? What did that person tell Laurel? As far as executive producer Pete Nowalk is concerned, the answer to those questions would be revealed pretty soon in “How to Get Away With Murder” Season 4.

“There was a version where you were going to see that [in the winter finale],” Nowalk told Entertainment Weekly. “But we’re going to find that out in the next episode.”

Surprisingly, it was Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) who saved Laurel’s baby when she was trapped in the elevator. Nowalk explained to The Hollywood Reporter that Annalise’s CPR with the baby was the climax of her redemptive arc this season.

“I think ultimately why we've done this is really Annalise has her own scars about losing her own child. So it really did just feel like it comes full circle, which she thinks is Wes’s baby. So it felt like a no-brainer in terms of she would want this baby to live, and I really actually love watching her do something heroic. Just pure emotional heroism,” he said.

Next episode, Nowalk teased that things will pick up “in the immediate aftermath” of that night. Since the baby is premature, Laurel will be waking up and screaming for the whereabouts of her baby.

“Normally, we would’ve answered that before the mid-season finale, but we have one less episode to air because of where Thanksgiving fell, so you’ll find that out in the premiere,” he said.

If the baby survives, will Annalise reunite with her former students? Souza earlier told E! News that Laurel’s decision to keep the baby was actually based on her relationship with Annalise. “She knew Annaise had lost a baby and she knew that this was sort of both of their ways to have a second chance,” she explained.

Hopefully, they will all patch up their past grievances and move on for the sake of the baby.

“How to Get Away with Murder” Season 4 airs every Thursday at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
