A "huge" snake nearly fell on a 75-year-old man’s head, leaving him stunned.

Speaking to local daily Lincolnshire Live, the elderly man, identified as Chris Tredwell, said he was walking his three dogs at the Hartsholme Park in Lincoln, England, over the weekend when he had the encounter. The man saw a crow picking up the huge snake before dropping the reptile right in front of him. The reptile survived the fall and escaped.

“The snake landed right in front of me - it just missed me. It was too heavy for the bird to carry. It just appeared as if it was too heavy for it. I saw the crow pick something up and I thought ‘what’s it got? It looks like a piece of rope,” he recalled.

"I was very surprised! Initially I didn’t know if it was an adder - which are venomous - so I was pleased to see the colouring of green and yellow which told me it was a grass snake. It’s as big a snake as I’ve ever seen and I’d never seen one in Hartsholme before. One of the dogs I was walking was very interested in what it was and then recoiled when the snake moved,” he told the newspaper.

The man added that following the incident, he is more careful while walking.

Meanwhile, Holly Kirk, who works at Lincoln Reptile and Pet Centre in Lincoln, said the incident was not a regular occurrence.

"It’s really unusual. It’s not unusual for a crow to try and eat it – they’ll eat just about anything. But grass snakes like to live in grassy areas but they're normally quite secretive. They are pretty common but not in that circumstance!" she told the newspaper.

The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust stated that grass snakes are native to the United Kingdom and are not dangerous to humans.

"The grass snake is our longest snake, but don't worry if you find one in the compost heap - it's harmless! During the summer, grass snakes can be spotted basking in the sun near their favorite ponds or swimming in the water,” the trust stated.
