Australian rapper Amethyst Amelia Kelly, a.k.a Iggy Azalea, took to Twitter to defend herself after facing backlash for allegedly not supporting Britney Spears amid her conservatorship battle. The four-time Grammy nominee is one of the several artists accused of not speaking up about the #FreeBritney movement.

"I am actually here to support someone in a way that is helpful and also mindful," she wrote in her response to a tweet that accused her of remaining silent on the matter. "Britney has said in her own words she is embarrassed to even share this with the world. If she needed me to speak on her behalf, that message has been delivered to her. Other than that - I am good," she added.

Azalea explained that she cared about Spears but chose not to speak out more about her conservatorship issue due to a non-disclosure agreement she had signed with the artist following their rumored rift in 2015, E! reported.

In 2015, Spears and Azalea had collaborated on the song "Pretty Girls." Azalea was unhappy with the song’s chart performance at the time and blamed the outcome on their lack of promotion and TV appearances when the song dropped. The following year, she called out Spears’ team for searching her house before the American singer visited Azalea for lunch.

"I said her team would not let her do promo and they went through my house etc and y’all said I was a hater," she wrote on Twitter.

Azalea clarified that she could not divulge much information due to their non-disclosure agreement. Urging critics to leave her alone, she then said that she had reached out to Spears with her support.

"I have done what I am supposed to do, I have reached out," she tweeted. "I am not supposed to be mindlessly telling you all whatever was happening because half of these people are just here for entertainment, not to help. I actually care and she can use me if she needs my voice. Leave me alone PLEASE," she added.

Spears opened up about her conservatorship situation in her court testimony on June 23. Several artists have since expressed their messages of support for the singer, including Spears’ ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake.
