  • Aaron Trejo was sentenced to 65 years in prison for killing pregnant girlfriend
  • He told authorities she waited too long to tell him
  • His aunt told the media the family did not know about their relationship or the baby

Aaron Trejo, who had been convicted of the murder of a pregnant teen, was sentenced to 65 years on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old from Indiana was sentenced on separate counts of first-degree murder. The first was of Breana Rouhselang in December 2018, and the second sentence was ten years for feticide.

The two sentences are not to be served concurrently.

The court records show Trejo, a high school football player for Mishawaka High school, admitted to fighting with Rouhselang about the unborn child before he stabbed her in the heart.

He placed the body in a garbage bag and threw her body in a dumpster. Trejo also tossed her phone and the weapon in a river.

The father and stepmother of the deceased cheerleader were seen in tears outside the court during the first arraignment.

At first, Trejo pleaded not guilty to the murder charges, though he was tried as an adult.

Trejo’s aunt, Alexzaundra Patton-Manu, told media outlets the whole family was in shock concerning the charges leveled against the teen.

She went on to claim no one in the family was aware of the relationship between the teens. Trejo’s parents were also not informed the cheerleader was expecting a baby with their son.

In the charging documents, detective Gery Mullins wrote that Trejo told him Breana waited too long to inform him concerning the pregnancy, so it was hard for her to get an abortion.

He asked Trejo what Trejo did next, and he replied that he took action, thereby taking her life.

Her stepmother, Nicole Rouhselang, told reporters her daughter had been six months pregnant when she was killed.

The 17-year-old Rouhselang has been a cheerleader, softball coach, and football team manager.

Trejo told the South Bend detective he stabbed her in the heart because he believed she would die quickly. He then tried as much as he could to hide the evidence.

Authorities discovered the body in a dumpster behind Pasquale Rulli Pizza, a block from where her biological mother lived.

Her mother last saw her after she said she was going to meet the father of the baby at 11 pm. She did not return.

Authorities executed a search warrant at the Trejo home and arrested him there.

The superintendent for the school city of Mishawaka, Dean Speicher, confirmed that the two had attended school together from the time they were students at John Young Middle School.
