NetherRealm Studios creative director Ed Boon recently teased that “Injustice 2” might include characters from the comic book “Watchmen.” Boon has been communicating with “Injustice: Gods Among Us” fans, asking them about what they want for the upcoming sequel.

Boon recently took to Twitter to post a poll asking fans whether they want characters from “Watchmen” to appear in “Injustice 2.” The poll’s already closed and the results show a resounding yes with 74 percent. For the uninitiated, “Watchmen” is a limited series 12-issue comic book by writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons. It’s set in an alternate history where the presence of superheroes influenced and changed real-life history.

Boon hasn’t confirmed if “Watchmen” characters will indeed be part of the “Injustice 2” roster, but it does look like the creative director is gauging the audience’s response to such a proposal, according to GameRant. If “Watchmen” characters like Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach or The Comedian do make an appearance, their inclusion should make sense in terms of the game’s storyline.

If the characters aren’t integrated to the story, then perhaps they’ll be available as DLC characters like “Mortal Kombat” character Scorpion in “Gods Among Us.” There’s also the question of which character would naturally fit in the combat system of “Injustice 2.” The Comedian seems like he could have a set of moves like Deadshot, while Nite Owl would obviously have a similar style as Batman's.

With a lot of fans already supporting the notion of adding “Watchmen” characters, it’s highly possible that it’s going to happen. Boon also recently teased that the roster might include Spawn and Sub-Zero.

“Injustice 2” is listed by NetherRealm as having a 2017 release date for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Rumors are now circulating that it might arrive sometime during the first quarter.
