The New York police on Thursday arrested a homeless man on a wheelchair after he, without any provocation, stabbed a woman in the back on a Queens subway platform.

The suspect, identified as 57-year-old Daniel Arquette, who according to the witnesses had a strange and eccentric behavior, without any provocation stabbed and wounded a stranger when he just rolled past her on a Jamaica-bound platform at 71st Ave. and Queens Blvd. in Forest Hills.

The 47-year-old unnamed victim was waiting for her train when the man stabbed her in the back. The wound wasn’t lethal. She just felt pain and realized it was due to a stab wound only when the witnesses pointed it out to her.

She found the wound at the back with blood oozing out. She was then rushed to the nearby Jamaica Hospital. She is reported to be in good condition.

The police who rushed to the scene immediately took Arquette into custody. The weapon used for the attack was not revealed. He was charged with felony assault. According to the police, Arquette was intoxicated at the time of the incident. It was unclear whether his intoxication or a mental health condition may have triggered the attack.

The police were investigating the case to find out if Arquette had a criminal background. No further information was available at the moment.

In a similar incident that took place in the San Fransisco Bay area in July 2018 a man allegedly stabbed two sisters on the platform of a subway station claiming they were aliens who were responsible for the death of his grandmother.

The suspect, 29-year-old John Lee Cowell, during his trial, testified, “I stabbed both of the females in the crew because I believed they would not give my grandmother back.” One of the victims, Letifah Wilson, died and her 18-year-old younger sister, Nia Wilson, was critically injured during the attack. Cowell was arrested a day after the incident at BART’s Pleasant Hill Station. He was charged with one count of attempted murder and another for murder.
