The burned bodies of 12 Iraqi policemen were discovered in Ishaqi on Saturday after Iraqi troops and a tribal militia recaptured the town in Salaheddin province, north of Baghdad.

Ishaqi is one of the towns that had been seized by the al Qaeda splinter group the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria earlier this week. ISIS captured Iraq’s second-largest city, Mosul, on Tuesday.

Troops and the tribal militia helped retake Ishaqi on Saturday. While reclaiming the town, they found the burned bodies of 12 policemen, a police colonel and a doctor, according to Agence France-Presse.
