Marvel films to form the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 and 5 were unveiled during the San Diego Comic-Con 2019 over the weekend — including “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” with James Gunn as the director. He is also set to direct DC’s “The Suicide Squad.”

Gunn, on July 20, publicly confirmed on his Twitter account that Dc’s “The Suicide Squad” would go first followed by Marvel’s, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.”

Quite an interesting turn of events isn’t it? But will this spark complication between Marvel and DC?

Gunn was initially fired from the film but got reinstated as director of Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” Warner Bros. and DC, however, hired him for “The Suicide Squad” before he was told to direct the former.

There was an agreement struck among the parties involved that DC’s “The Suicide Squad” would shoot first followed by “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” Comic Book reported.

DC’s “The Suicide Squad” filming location had circulated the news. An anonymous source reportedly told HN Entertainment that the said place would be at Pinewood Atlanta Studios, Fayetteville, Georgia. The location was reportedly used by Gunn when he filmed Marvel’s “Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”

Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman and Jai Courtney will reprise their respective roles, while Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Daniela Melchior will be added to the group.

“The Suicide Squad” is not a “Suicide Squad” sequel. Film producer Peter Safran repeatedly confirmed that DC’s upcoming film is not part 2 as they would be doing a total reboot of the project.

“It's everything you would hope from a James Gunn script and I think that says a lot and that promises a lot and I know that we will deliver a lot," Safran said.

DC’s “The Suicide Squad” will reportedly start filming on September, 2019 and will come to theaters on August 6, 2021.

Marvel, meanwhile, presented “WandaVision,” “Black Widow,” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “Eternals,” Loki,” “Thor: Love and Thunder,” “Sang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” “What If…?” “Hawkeye” and “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness,” which were the movies that comprised the phase 4 of MCU, The Verge reported.

The recent announcement indicates that “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” will fall under the MCU 5. Gunn, at the very least, will have ample time to finish his previous engagements before commencing production for the said 3rd installment.
