Jay Cutler is opening up about his attempt to get back out in the dating world following his split from Kristin Cavallari.

Now single since their separation in April 2020, and subsequent divorce, the 38-year-old retired NFL quarterback admitted on his podcast "Uncut With Jay Cutler" Wednesday that getting back into the dating scene has been harder than he imagined.

"It’s hard as hell really," the "Very Cavallari" star shared. "Meeting people is hard. I think finding out what people really want from you; I think that’s probably an issue."

Cutler — who shares sons Camden, 9 and Jaxon, 7, and daughter Saylor, 5, with Cavallari — said he struggled to connect with people as he is a dad and not all can relate to parenthood.

"I’m at a different phase of my life now with kids. Priorities have changed," he explained. "It isn't just a purely selfish play by my part."

Aside from parenting, the former football player said there are some "aspects that have to be taken into consideration" since he was last single, pointing to the popularity of social media and dating apps.

"The whole landscape has changed. There are apps, there's Twitter, there's Instagram, it's a whole different ball game. You're not just walking into a restaurant or bar and talking to somebody. That doesn’t exist anymore," he explained.

Cutler filed for divorce from his wife of six years in April 2020, citing irreconcilable differences as the grounds for their split, E! News reported. He requested joint custody of their kids and equitable distribution of the marital assets, according to legal documents.

"We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of," part of their joint announcement read.

However, some of their fans were not surprised by the announcement that they had called it quits, claiming that the two had always seemed incompatible with each other.

"This is not surprising at all. They are complete opposites. Jay is content with staying home and spending time with his family while Kristen was always too worried about the show, her business and her friends," one fan commented on Instagram.

"That’s not surprising. Jay is a miserable man and was not hiding his lack of emotions and feelings on TV either!" another wrote, adding that "Kristin can get better from someone who can show her love and support and emotions."

The former couple is still finalizing their divorce. An unnamed source told TMZ in May that Cutler allegedly wants 50% ownership of Cavallari's lifestyle and jewelry brand Uncommon James, which she launched in 2017, four years after they tied the knot.

The company was "considered a marital asset" because it was created "during their marriage," another anonymous insider told E! News. Once the value is determined, they will agree on how to divide it. If they are not able to agree, then the court will decide.

The tipster added that both Cutler and Cavallari are cooperative but are still working on how to divide their assets.

"Everybody is cooperating to get everything finalized and valued," the source told the outlet. "Everything has been agreed on except the division of assets. Generally, in divorce cases, assets, including businesses are valued and then determined on how they are split."
