Despite being rookies on MTV’s “The Challenge,” “The Real World: Ex-plosion” stars Jay Gotti and Jenna Compono managed to squeak past their veteran competitors for 12 episodes of "Battle of the Exes 2," earning a spot on the finale. However, their place may have been better suited for a different team.

On the season finale of “The Challenge: Battle of the Exes 2” Tuesday, Jay and Jenna attempted to keep up with their competition -- teams Leroy and Theresa and Sarah and Jordan -- but failed to do so when met with a food challenge. After being instructed to drink pints of what appeared to be liquefied fish, Jay made it clear to Jenna he would not be able to complete the checkpoint.

“It’s just not working. My stomach just won’t let it go down,” Jay said after attempting to choke down one cup of the repulsive beverage. “I’m more disappointed in myself than anybody. I can do anything but this.”

While Jenna pleaded with Jay to pull through, he failed to do so, resulting in an appearance by host TJ Lavin. Amid Jay’s tears, TJ revealed that Jay was putting his team at risk of being disqualified from the game. Despite his threat, Jay refused to complete the checkpoint, resulting in a dis from TJ.

“You know there are some people that are made for 'The Challenge,' and then there’s you guys,” TJ said. “You guys just completely sucked. You’re done.”

After leaving $30,000 in prize money on the table, Jenna made it clear that she was not a fan of her ex and Season 26 partner. “I still hate Jay,” she said. “I have so much hate for him, and I can’t get past that. Knowing that we didn’t finish is really annoying, and I’m going to regret it.”

Following the episode’s premiere, Jay and Jenna both took to Twitter to address their shocking exit.

Unfortunately for “Challenge” newbie Jay, TJ wasn’t the only one disappointed by his disqualification. Not only have viewers attacked Jay for failing to complete the final, the couple’s eliminated co-stars have also added their own 2 cents regarding his and Jenna's leave.

On the reunion special for “Battle of the Exes 2” Tuesday, Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio made it clear he didn’t think Jay would complete the final. “He was in way over his head in the final. The entire game he was in over his head.... You’re going to make it to a final and you're going to quit on something like that? You don’t belong in the final!”

“There is a reason why some people do certain challenges and you never see them again, because certain people are just not cut out for this show, and you, my friend, are not one of those people,” contestant Nia Moore said. “You wasted money that someone else could have had!”

Nia later took to Twitter to share some additional digs.
