KEY POINTS

  • Jennifer Lopez's "old movie" dress during her wedding to Ben Affleck could be from the 2004 movie "Jersey Girl"
  • The 52-year-old "Marry Me" star wore two dresses from two different designers to her wedding
  • "Jersey Girl" costume designer Juliet Polcsa said the McQueen dress and the "Jersy Girl" outfit were not the same

Jennifer Lopez’s eagle-eyed fans speculated that the “old movie” dress mentioned in her exclusive On The JLo newsletter could have been from the movie “Jersey Girl” from 2004.

On Saturday night, the 52-year-old singer wore two different dresses during her surprise wedding with “Argo” director Ben Affleck in Las Vegas at A Little White Wedding Chapel.

Lopez flaunted a floral jacquard full-skirt gown designed by late British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, the designer's representative, Patricia Korepta, confirmed. The “Marry Me” star also wore an elegant off-shoulder lace design gown that will be released in designer Zuhair Murad’s upcoming Spring 2023 bridal collection, USA Today reported.

Murad’s sales representative said, “[The Amelia dress] will be released in October, but you can already pre-order it. To look like Lopez on your wedding day, the dress is approximately $10,433, and the veil is $2,715.”

Since the Zuhair Murad dress has yet to be released, fans and fashion bloggers turned their attention to the Alexander McQueen dress.

In a viral video posted by hair artist Chris Appleton, Lopez mentioned that she was saving the dress for “so many years.”

One netizen quickly pointed out in a thread via Twitter that Lopez wore the dress in a “Jersey Girl” film promotion poster. In the movie, the singer-actress starred as the deceased wife of her now-husband Affleck’s character. The user also posted a photo of the poster and the McQueen dress for reference.

It was in response to an inquiry posted by another fan that said, “Hey @jlo you need to tell ur fans what Old Movie dress ur wearing cuz [n]o one cant [sic] figure it out.”

Unfortunately, fans have reached a dead end on their investigation for “Jersey Girl” costume designer Juliet Polcsa told USA Today, via a representative named Rocco Hindman, that the two dresses were “not the same piece.”

“The dress worn by Ms. Lopez over the weekend does not appear to be the same dress that was made for 'Jersey Girl,'” Hindman said.

The McQueen dress did have similar features, but fans missed an important difference between the wardrobe pieces, the keyhole found on the neckline. The 49-year-old award-winning actor covered the part in the poster, but it was evident in the scenes from the movie.

Over the years of the “Marry Me” star’s acting career, she played a bride in nine different films, including “Mi Familia,” “Selena,” “The Wedding Planner,” “Monster-in-Law,” “El-Cantante,” “The Back-up-Plan” and many more.

It would take time to figure out the “old movie” dress secret. But if fans got time, they could stream Lopez’s films on Netflix to finally uncover the mystery.
