In the past, Amber Heard has accused Johnny Deep of being violent throughout their 15-month marriage, allegations in which he has denied. However, the 57-year-old recently alleged that Heard was the one who resorted to violence during their relationship.

On Monday, the actor continued his libel lawsuit against News Group Newspapers, which owns the U.K. outlet The Sun. Depp’s lawsuit comes after the outlet referred to him as a “wife beater” in an article in 2018.

Depp revealed that after he learned that he lost $750 million, he arrived late to Heard’s 30th birthday party. Although the actress previously accused her ex-husband of attacking her that night, during his court testimony, he claimed the 34-year-old was the one who got violent.

“It’s just a type of wild swinging … kind of a roundhouse punch, as it were. It’s a bit of a wild swing, but effective if it reaches the target,” he explained, as reported by The Guardian.

Depp claimed Heard’s “haymaker” blows came after he learned that he was hundreds of millions of dollars in debt because of his business manager.

“It was put to me this way, because I had no idea about money or amounts of money: Since 'Pirates [of the Caribbean]' 2 and 3, I had – and this is ludicrous to have to state, it’s quite embarrassing – apparently I had made $650 million,” he said.

“When I sacked [the former business managers], for the right reasons, I had not only lost $650 million, but I was $100 million in the hole because they had not paid the government my taxes for 17 years.”

Since the court proceedings began, Depp has also accused Heard of using their marriage to further her career, accusations the actress’ lawyer has denied.
