Jason Pierre-Paul rejoined the New York Giants this week after being unsigned for the first seven weeks of the season, and the first-close up look at his injured hand has been revealed. The defensive end lost his right index figure and suffered injuries to his other fingers in a fireworks accident this summer.

The defensive end has signed a new contract with the team, guaranteeing him $1.5 million. He won’t be in New Orleans for the Giants’ Week 8 game against the Saints, but he could be playing in his first game in Week 10 when New York hosts the New England Patriots.

Pierre-Paul led the Giants with 12.5 sacks last season, and New York has missed his presence on the defensive line in 2015. Only the Atlanta Falcons have fewer sacks than the Giants this season, and the 26-year-old is confident that he’ll return to his old form.

“I’m the same JPP that I was last year,” Pierre-Paul said, via The New York Daily News. “There’s not going to be a major adjustment. As far as my hand goes, I’ll get used to it. I’m just fortunate to play football again.
