Duchess Kate Middleton is celebrating her 38th birthday this week and to start the festivities, a gathering of friends and family took place at Amner Hall over the weekend. However, while the celebration was rather small, it was notably missing two other high-profile members of the royal family--Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

Middleton, Prince William, and their friends all joined Queen Elizabeth II at the St. Mary Magdalene Church on Sunday, according to People. Among them were Middleton’s parents Michael and Carole Middleton, Laura Meade and Emilia Jardine Patterson, who are godparents of Prince George and Prince Louis and family friend Tom van Straubenzee and his fiancée, Lucy Lanigan-O’Keeffe.

Even Rose Hanbury was seen with Middleton at her birthday celebration, despite rumors of an alleged affair between her and Prince William. According to Cheat Sheet, however, those rumors eventually faded away. While it still remains only as a speculation, there was also talk of an alleged “falling out” between Middleton and the Marchioness of Cholmondeley at the time.

The royal couple and their family and friends then continued the celebrations at Anmer Hall, sans Meghan and Harry.

Middleton and other members of the royal family have a history of making birthday headlines, and this is not the first time those headlines are coming about Harry and Meghan being absent from the celebrations. In fact, last year, Middleton celebrated with two different events, both of which did not feature the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

According to Express, Prince Harry has spoken up about the two royal couple’s falling-out with one another. While he claims that the responsibilities the two families share make them way too busy to keep in touch like they used to, the two brothers would still do anything for each other. He maintains that the two are on “separate paths” at the moment, but they both love each other dearly.
