Kate Middleton channeled Queen Elizabeth II during a recent outing.

On Wednesday, the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out for a solo visit to the Victoria and Albert Museum to tour its new photography center. Prince William's wife wore a new off-the-shoulder fitted tweed dress by Erdem. The dress is among the brand's spring 2018 collection, and it features a burgundy belt, button detailing and a flared skirt.

According to Erdem Moralioglu at the London fashion weeks show last year, Middleton's outfit was inspired by Queen Elizabeth II's outfit in 1958 when she met the late American jazz pianist Duke Ellington.

"[King George VI] had been a huge fan of his music, and when they met, he was so enamoured with her that he wrote a piece of music called 'The Queen's suite," Moralioglu told The Telegraph backstage.

"Thinking about The Cotton Club, and Harlem, and Dorothy Dandridge, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday," he continued. "What if she went to New York, and what if Dorothy Dandridge ended up in Buckingham Palace?"

People shared photos of the Queen on the said event and her outfit has a resemblance to Middleton's checkered frock. However, unlike the Duchess of Cambridge, Queen Elizabeth II paired her dress with a matching headpiece.

Middleton was appointed as the first royal patron of the Victoria and Albert Museum earlier this year. So, her attendance at the event wasn't surprising. The palace announced this back in March.

"The Duchess of Cambridge is to become the first Royal Patron of the Victoria and Albert Museum. Furthering Her Royal Highness's interest in the visual arts, photography and design, she formally takes up the @V_and_A Patronage from today," Kensington Palace wrote on Twitter.

In related news, the Duchess of Cambridge has cut her hair short after giving birth to Prince Louis in April. According to Claire Smith from "The Baby Show," this move is common to moms because it helps them make things more manageable.

"Many mums have enough to worry about when they have a new baby and their hair is often one of the last things on their mind, so it becomes a natural option for many to make it more manageable and cut it shorter," Smith told OK! magazine.
