Kate Middleton’s fashion is reportedly inspired by a former royal and it’s not Princess Diana.

In the Amazon Prime documentary “William & Kate: The Journey,” it has been revealed that the Duchess of Cambridge’s style has been strongly influenced by Hollywood star Grace Kelly, who later became Princess Grace of Monaco.

The comparisons kicked off with Middleton and Kelly’s royal wedding styles that were both elegant and fit for slender-looking builds. Royal reporter Ashley Pearson talked about the bodice of both dresses, as well as the intricate lace that was used to form the brides’ wedding dress sleeves.

Both dresses also featured covered buttons on the bodice. Kelly’s dress was buttoned up the front, while Middleton’s gown was buttoned down the spine. And when Middleton wed Prince William in 2011, she used the same perfume that Kelly wore on her wedding day. Florissimo by Creed was made for Kelly by her husband Prince Rainier.

“Kate wanted to remind the world that this has been done before, a commoner marrying a future king. She really was channeling the late Princess Grace in more ways than one,” Pearson said (via Express).

In related news, Middleton has also been seen wearing clothes that are similar to what Princess Diana wore years ago. Susan Kelley of the popular site What Kate Wore, said that Middleton may have also been taking inspiration from the Princess of Wales because of her own background in art history. As such, Middleton pays attention to details and design.

“Using that background and looking to Diana for fashion inspiration makes perfect sense. For me, the linkage is that of an homage, a sign of respect or acknowledgment,” she said (via Express).

Princess Diana is reportedly recognized as one of the best-dressed women in history. This label has drawn her closer to the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn.

Eleri Lynn, the curator of a 2017 exhibition at Kensington Palace called “Diana: Her Fashion Story,” described the mom of two’s style as cheerful and colorful.
