Kate Middleton’s wedding dress has continuously set a trend.

On Monday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary. It’s been almost a decade, but Middleton’s stunning Alexander McQueen wedding dress remains a favorite.

According to Stephanie Moran, a wedding blogger for Magpie Wedding, Middleton’s bridal gown set a trend.

“Kate’s dress set a trend both within the wedding industry and fashion industry for a more chic, sleek and modern look - whilst staying traditional and classic – it was the perfect look for a true regal wedding and it paved the way for the simple dress to really make a less is more statement,” she told Express.

She added that it still influences the way wedding dresses are designed today years after the 2011 royal wedding. In fact, she believes that Princess Eugenie and Meghan Markle’s designers considered Middleton’s gown when they created the royal wedding dresses last year.

“We saw this portrayed even further with both Eugenie’s and Meghan’s wedding dresses having no lace at all on them – a ripple effect has definitely been seen with couture clients wanting this look more and more and has been recognised within the industry with designers opting for a simpler look when releasing collections,” she added.

Middleton was dubbed “copycat Kate” because her wedding dress was too similar to Isabella Orsini’s. Both of the gowns feature a lace bodice, V-neckline and long sleeves. However, many find Middleton’s gown to be “much nicer and better cut.”

Isabella, an actress and goddaughter of Silvio Berlusconi, didn’t deny the similarities. She admitted that she thought Middleton’s gown was a “copy of mine.” Then she complimented the Duchess of Cambridge for having a good taste.

According to Kate Beavis, owner of Magpie Wedding, Middleton’s dress reminded her of Grace Kelly’s wedding dress. For her, Middleton’s wedding gown started the trend of “prettier lace” which is something nostalgic. She also noticed how since Markle and Princess Eugenie’s wedding, brides tend to choose much simpler and sleeker designs.

Middleton’s wedding gown made a buzz online and it helped a charitable foundation years ago big time. Due to its popularity, the Royal Collection reportedly gave $380,000 to donate to charity as a thank-you to Middleton for allowing her wedding dress to be the centerpiece of Buckingham Palace’s summer opening to the public in 2012.
