Pulse Music Group confirmed Thursday that they have signed 24-year-old singer Kehlani to a “worldwide music publishing deal.”

Kehlani responded to the announcement in a now-deleted Tweet in a way that her fans have grown to love about her.

“Feel kinda important when y’all write it out like this,” she said.

The record deal is big for the star, but it isn't the first time she's been in the business. Kehlani revealed in a 2018 interview with Cosmopolitan that she got into music after joining a band at 13.

“We would just do cover songs, so we were, like, going out to LA doing songs and then coming back to class in our show clothes still with our suitcases,” she said.

In the interview, she also addressed a common complaint of the music industry about exploiting young teenagers. She said she walked away from a meeting with a management company because of “morality issues.”

“I literally walked away from the table after the meeting and said ‘I never want to be a part of this. I never want to do this again,’” she said.

Two years later, Kehlani has changed her tune. Her new record deal includes all of her current discography as well as future songs and album releases.

Vice President of A&R at Pulse Music Group Ashley Calhoun said she and her team are excited to welcome Kehlani on board.

“Her talent both as an artist and songwriter is undeniable and seeing her career skyrocket in such a short time is incredibly impressive,” Calhoun said. "We can’t wait to get to work and to be a part of her team in this next stage of her career.

Kehlani is a multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated artist famous for songs like “Nights Like This” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and “Good Thing.” She has also been featured in a variety of other popular artists’ songs like Card B’s “Ring” and Kyle’s “Playwithme.”
