Kerry Washington, who has been featured in TIME’s 12 Women of The Year issue on Tuesday, shared how she feels about this honor, especially when she is a "girl mom."

"It's very surreal," Washington told ET on Tuesday. "I'm thrilled to be able to be here, being honored with women who are heroes of mine, and who are doing extraordinary work, and to amplify their work and just sort of cheer each other on."

The 45-year-old actress further noted that there's a potential to make this world a better place, adding that it is "thrilling" to celebrate those women who are working towards it.

"There's so much work to do to make this world a better place, so it's really thrilling to be able to celebrate some women who are working towards that," she said.

Washington also shared how she looks at things in a different way being a girl mom. "I do think being a 'girl mom,' makes you think about these issues in a different way," the actress said. "They just make me want to do more and better and be there for them."

In a separate interview with TIME on the same day, the actress shared her views on the political situation in the country. She recalled the time when her character Olivia Pope from the political drama series "Scandal" trended on Twitter during the 2016 presidential election.

The actress explained that if people want to save democracy in the country, they should realize that "we are the Olivia Popes of our communities and families."

On the work front, Washington was a regular on the "Scandal" TV series from 2012 to 2018.

Considering her upcoming projects, the actress will be seen in a teen fantasy movie, "The School for Good and Evil," which is helmed by director Paul Feig. The movie is based on Soman Chainani's novel of the same name.

The first look of the movie was shared on Twitter last year by the director.

She will also feature in a comedy movie, "24-7," which is helmed by director Eva Longoria. It is currently under pre-production.
