Kyuhyun Military Enlistment: Super Junior Member's Date For Mandatory Service Revealed

Super Junior’s Kyuhyun is set to be the last member of the South Korean band to enlist in the military, the band’s management agency announced Tuesday.

Six of the band’s members – Leeteuk, Yesung, Heechul, Sungmin and Shindong – have already finished their compulsory military service. Four members – Donghae, Siwon, Eunhyuk and Ryeowook – are serving in the military at the moment.

Donghae, Siwon and Eunhyuk, who enlisted in 2015, will finish their military duties later this year and return to their adoring fans. Ryeowook, on the other hand, enlisted late last year and is expected to be back in 2018.

Kyuhyun, who is also the youngest member of the band, is the last to enlist for the mandatory service. SM Entertainment announced that he will join the Nonsan Army Training Center, about 100 miles from Seoul, on May 25. Following the completion of basic training, he will serve as a public service worker.

Earlier this year, the management agency had said: “Kyuhyun will be enlisting this year as a social worker.”

The singer met with a car accident in 2007 and after his physical examination, it was decided that he would enlist as social worker.

Before the final announcement Tuesday, the 29-year-old went on an Asia tour to connect with his fans across the continent. Along with his role in the South Korean band, Kyuhyun is also an MC on one of the highest-ranking variety programs in the country, “Radio Star.”

“We are deciding when he will record with us for the last time,” a source from the show told Soompi. “Because we have already recorded many episodes to come, episodes starring Kyuhyun will still air for a while after he enlists. The main producer is searching for someone to take his spot as MC.”

Many fans are hoping that Kyuhyun’s replacement will be fellow band member Heechul, who has also previously been an MC for the show.
