Lady Gaga performed at Harlem’s Apollo Theater for the first time recently, and she gave an inspiring speech to the audience during her performance. The singer talked about her life’s journey that started with her as a regular girl in an apartment with an interest in music to becoming an Oscar winner.

Gaga opened up about her journey at Harlem’s Apollo Theater and said that it was a “historical moment” in her life, Page Six reported. She said that her journey began as a girl from the Lower East Side who had a keyboard and a dream. Now that she gets a chance to be on stage, living her dream; the singer said that it feels like she is home.

Sitting in her apartment when she was younger, Gaga used to write songs about family, about boys, and about fame. The singer said that she faced setbacks in her life, but she just kept her head down and kept working. All her hard work eventually culminated in her winning an Oscar.

Before Gaga was famous, people apparently told her that her work was “shallow.” She told the audience to not listen to people who say it can’t be done and tell oneself repeatedly that the task they have set out to do can be done.

Apart from singing some of her greatest hits, Gaga also talked about Pride Month, People reported. The singer said that she too has been “misunderstood in different ways,” and added that although the hardships each one faces are different; everyone is together in this journey.

Among the audience were Gaga’s “A Star Is Born” co-stars Shangela and William. Shangela shared a video of the event online and wrote on Instagram about how the singer’s performances are always inspiring. “I had soooo much fun... and I have to pinch myself whenever u sing SHALLOW,” the post read.
