Former President Trump vowed to punish doctors who provide gender-affirming health care to minors if he is reelected in 2024, in a video released Tuesday on his social media platform.

In the nearly four-minute-long, straight-to-camera video, Trump vowed to push schools to "promote positive education about the nuclear family" and "the roles of mothers and fathers" as part of a wide-ranging set of policies that has captured the attention of state and federal lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

Teachers or school officials who "suggest to a child that they could be trapped in the wrong body" would face "severe consequences," Trump added. That could take the form of civil rights penalties and loss of federal funds, according to an NBC News report.

"No serious country should be telling its children that they were born with the wrong gender," Trump said in the video before falsely claiming that being transgender is a concept that the "radical left" manufactured "just a few years ago."

"Under my leadership, this madness will end," he said.

Trump added that he would also prohibit any federal agency from working to "promote the concept of sex and gender transition at any age," not just for minors.

Doctors who treat transgender youth will be booted from Medicaid and Medicare under his leadership, Trump said Tuesday, and a private right of action will be established for patients who later regret having received gender-affirming health care as minors to sue their physicians.

Health experts have said that restricting access to care can have severe and negative impacts on transgender youth. The proposals are likely to be met with forceful opposition from LGBTQ rights advocates, who are fighting similar ideas across the country, calling them detrimental to trans people.

Gender-affirming care for minors has already come under attack in a number of states, including Arkansas, which passed a ban that now faces legal challenges, and Utah, which over the weekend enacted its own ban.

Last year, during a campaign rally in Texas, Trump said transgender women should be barred from playing on women's sports teams, vowing to "ban men from participating in women's sports" if he is reelected.

"The left-wing gender insanity being pushed at our children is an act of child abuse. Very simple. Here's my plan to stop the chemical, physical and emotional mutilation of our youth," Trump said Tuesday.
