Logitech has announced a new wireless charger that’s designed in collaboration with Apple. Called the Logitech Powered Wireless Charging Stand, the device will allow users to charge their iPhones in portrait or landscape mode.

“Powered lives up to the elegance and experience of the iPhone, making your wireless charging completely seamless and keeping you connected while you power up,” Logitech’s vice president of mobility Michele Hermann said. “Unlike traditional flat chargers, there’s no need for exact alignment – just drop your iPhone in the cradle and go. It’s a truly magical experience, especially for iPhone X users who can use Face ID with a simple glance.”

The best feature of the device is its ability to wirelessly charge an iPhone in vertical or horizontal orientation. This will allow users to continue having their FaceTime conversations or watching videos while their iPhones are charging. The Powered Wireless Charging Stand features a rubberized u-shaped cradle that makes sure an iPhone stays in place on the stand. The wireless charger also works with iPhones that are enclosed in protectives cases that are up to 3mm thick.

Logitech said that the Power Wireless Charging Stand comes with an overheat protection system that regulates temperature. This makes sure that the iPhone and the charger stay cool when users are wirelessly charging and using their phone at the same time.

The folks over at 9To5Mac were able to try it out for a couple of days and said that it was the “nicest and most versatile” charging stand they’ve ever tried. The all-white design also fits perfectly with Apple’s iPhone. The only real problem with the Logitech Powered Wireless Charging Stand is that it uses proprietary charging cable that can’t be detached from the charger's body.

Logitech didn’t specify how deeply involved Apple was in the development of the device, but it’s clear that it will work perfectly for the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Moreover, the Power Wireless Charging Stand is compliant with the Qi wireless charging standard, which means it will also work with other smartphones that support Qi wireless charging, as pointed out by Engadget.

The Logitech Power Wireless Charging Stand will be available sometime this month for $69.99. Apple is also expected to release the AirPower wireless charging mat sometime soon, with rumors pointing to a September release date. The AirPower was announced in September 2017.
