Lorde opened up about why she decided to take a break from social media. The singer said it was affecting her mental health.

The 24-year-old singer appeared on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" on Wednesday and noted that she has completely removed all social media apps from her mobile phone due to the negative effects they had on her mental health.

"I did it because I felt like my brain wasn't working very well anymore," Lorde said. "It was horribly difficult, the hardest thing I've ever done. It's still horribly difficult every day. It would be like stopping eating sugar for me like I still eat tons of sugar. And if I don't have sugar, I feel insane."

Lorde, who dropped her third studio album "Solar Power," on Aug. 20, further noted how disconnected she felt after leaving social media.

"And the first little while of not being on social media was totally like that. I was so crabby," she explained. "I felt so disconnected. But it's how my life is now."

The singer stopped using social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. However, she does use New York Times' cooking app and often reads the comments there.

"That's become a source of community for me," she disclosed. "You get all these weird little stories. 'Someone's like, 'I make this for my husband when he gets home from work and he does this.' Every once in a while you get some kind of detail. You'll find something and you'll make it into that."

Corden revealed that he also tried to take a break from social media but it never lasted longer than a month.

Lorde said her assistant has all her passwords and she has also blocked search engines like Google from her mobile phone, which is "next level sort of crazy."

"I can't Google on my phone," she noted. "I can't have Safari or anything like that. I kind of love it. You actually don't need to Google as many things as you think you need to — just do it at home on your computer!"

Lorde's newly-released "Solar Power" music album consists of 14 songs, including "California," "Big Star and "Hold No Grudge."
