Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox Project Scorpio console has been teased for a while, but an early look at the Xbox One update is coming from an unexpected source.

On Twitter, gaming tech analysis site Digital Foundry announced Tuesday it would have an exclusive reveal for Project Scorpio. The news will drop Thursday, April 6 at 9 a.m. EDT.

Microsoft has released few details on Project Scorpio outside of last year’s E3 press conference, which makes giving an early look to Digital Foundry a fairly out of left field move for the company. The site is best known for its in-depth technical breakdowns of console hardware and graphical comparisons of games between platforms.

Major Xbox Project Scorpio reveals like cost and release date aren’t likely to be part of Thursday’s reveal, but given Digital Foundry’s past coverage, Microsoft likely feels confident in Scorpio’s technical bonafides. As Ars Technica points out, Digital Foundry’s breakdowns have often found the stock Xbox One’s performance to be a step behind the basic PlayStation 4.

For Microsoft, Project Scorpio aims to close the technical gap between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox. The new console revision to the Xbox One is also intended to bring 4K and virtual reality support to Xbox owners. Like with Sony’s updated PlayStation 4 Pro, Project Scorpio will sport improved internal specifications for better graphics performance.
