  • A 28-year-old California man linked to three sexual assault cases was arrested Thursday by Fremont police
  • The man, who was nude at the time of the incident, was caught by officers attacking a 67-year-old Asian woman
  • Police are looking into other victims who may have been attacked by the assailant

A 28-year-old California man was arrested Thursday after he was caught brutally attacking a 67-year-old woman in the front yard of a San Francisco Bay Area home. The man is also the main suspect in two other sexual assault incidents, Fremont police said.

The Fremont Police Department responded to a call Thursday and found a naked man, identified as Alexander Lomax, sexually assaulting the unnamed victim "in broad daylight," KTLA.com reported. Police said he also severely beat the Asian woman, according to a Friday press release.

Officers were able to intervene and arrest the man. Lomax was booked for investigation of multiple felonies, including kidnapping, sexual battery and assault with an intent to rape.

Lomax is now being held without bail and is set to be arraigned Monday. It was unclear as of this writing if Lomax had an attorney present.

The victim was taken to the hospital with major, non-life-threatening injures. She sustained facial injuries and multiple broken bones in the attack, according to authorities.

The incident came just hours after a 57-year-old Asian woman was also sexually assaulted about a mile away from the scene. Detectives connected Lomax to this attack.

The second victim was reportedly walking around the Auto Mall Parkway when she was punched at the back of the head and pushed to the ground before the assailant got on top of her. The woman was able to bite her attacker. The man fled the scene when witnesses came in to intervene.

After further investigation, police found that Lomax had preyed on a third victim on May 5, a 75-year-old woman who was out shopping at a Safeway supermarket. He allegedly walked up behind her, grabbed her arm and committed a sexual act, police said.

“As a police chief and as a woman, I am completely horrified by this crime. My thoughts are with the victims during this incredibly difficult time. I can assure the public that this case is the Department's highest priority and we are working diligently with the District Attorney to keep this offender in custody,” Fremont Police Chief Kimberly Petersen said.

Lomax was charged with assault with intent to commit rape related to the 57-year-old victim and sexual battery by restraint and false imprisonment related to the 75-year-old victim. The assault with intent to commit sodomy charge is no bail.

Considering Lomax has been linked to three sexual assault cases, police are now trying to determine if other victims had similar encounters. The police department has yet to provide an update but vowed to make sure that they get the proper support services.
