The New Year was around the corner and a family thought of celebrating it at the Universal Orlando Resort at Orlando on Sunday, Dec. 30. But their celebration was in for a shocker, as a 23-year-old man tried to kidnap their 9-year-old daughter.

The man identified as Jason Mikel has been arrested and charged with attempts of kidnapping, battery and possession of cannabis, since police found 2 grams of cannabis in his pocket, reported News Channel 8.

The accused, tried to kidnap the girl when she was at the locker area of one of the rides. The police affidavit said the man tried to grab the girl and touched on her shoulder and asked to go to her mother who was waiting outside the locker.

Police said Mikel “touched her on the shoulders," and then asked the girl to go outside because "her mother was outside”

Orlando police recorded the statements of all four people -- the accused, the witness, the victim and her mother. The mother told the Police that she did not give the authority to anyone to touch her daughter. She further stated that the child looked scared when she ran back to her.

The witness recounted the scene and told the police that the girl looked “scared and unassociated with the male”. The witness also heard the accused saying that “mommy was over here”.

After encountering the incident, the witness reported the accused to the Universal staff, though the accused managed to escape. The Universal employees followed the accused and garbed him, near Hogwarts Express attraction and handed him over to cops.

Mikel appeared in court Monday for the hearing, where an attorney with the local public defender’s office, stated the evidence didn’t support a charge of kidnapping. However, the judge directed the state to file an additional report in 24 hours while upholding Mikel’s arrest until further notice, reported Click Orlando. Mikel has been indefinitely banned from all the Universal Studio properties following the incident.
