  • Errol Spence impresses Manny Pacquiao with a decisive win over Danny Garcia
  • MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons confirms Pacquiao wants Spence next year
  • Also, Terence Crawford and Pacquiao have verbally agreed to fight each other

Errol Spence Jr. didn’t name-drop any fighter he wants next after beating Danny Garcia. However, Manny Pacquiao has just volunteered himself.

Fight fans were delighted to see Spence back in action at the AT&T Stadium in Texas on Saturday as he took on Garcia in a welterweight title defense. The undefeated champ extended his flawless pro record by claiming a lopsided unanimous decision win over the Mexican-American boxer.

Despite incurring injuries from the tragic car crash back in October of last year, Spence showed no ring rust or any signs of ill effect for the entire 12 rounds.

After the decisive win, the 30-year-old did not specify his plans, but one of the biggest names in the sport is reportedly interested in becoming his next opponent.

MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons has confirmed to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports that the world’s only eight-division titlist has now set his sights on Spence for a welterweight title unification sometime next year.

“Just spoke to Sean [Gibbons] of MP Promotions,” Iole tweeted. “He said Senator Manny Pacquiao said he was impressed and thought Spence look good. Still has the fire to fight in 2021 and would like to take on Spence.”

After a spectacular comeback, Spence seemed to have convinced Pacquiao to set a date for his highly-anticipated ring return as well. Prior to his statement about his boss’ plans, Gibbons previously revealed that “Pac-Man” has been busy helping his fellow countrymen back in the Philippines.

“You know what, I wish I had something,” the MP Promotions chief told Inquirer Philippines of Pacquiao’s plans during last week. “The latest is, he’s out helping the people of the Philippines, doing a great job during this pandemic.”

Aside from Pacquiao, Terence Crawford is another pugilist in the 147-pound division who presents a strong case to be Spence’s next foe.

Not only does an encounter between two of the best welterweights will determine the best fighter in the aforementioned weight class, but it will also be one of the most important title bouts in the sport today.

The potential clash would unify three major belts in the welterweight bracket– Spence’s WBC and IBF straps as well as Crawford’s WBO title.

However, things could still take a huge turn should Crawford and Pacquiao manage to make their much-awaited confrontation official. After the former's stoppage win over Kell Brook last Nov. 14, both men have agreed to face each other inside the squared-circle.
