Twitter temporarily suspended Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from its platform for 12 hours after she violated the platform’s policy against spreading misinformation about COVID-19 and the vaccine, the tech giant said on Monday evening.

In tweets on Sunday and Monday, the Georgia Republican argued that COVID-19 was not dangerous for people unless they were obese or over age 65. She also said vaccines should not be required.

The account was put on “read-only” mode for the suspension period, which Twitter’s rules said happens “if it seems like an otherwise healthy account is in the middle of an abusive episode.”

Marjorie has also said in her tweets that the vaccine is controversial, calling it “human experimentation.”

Twitter has marked those tweets as “misleading” and added a link for people to find out why the “COVID-19 vaccines are safe for most people.”

Greene’s tweets come at a time where COVID-19 cases are on the rise. Health officials said this month that the Delta variant is infecting people at an unprecedented rate and the unvaccinated account for the bulk of cases and hospitalizations.

In Georgia, where 45% of the population received one dose and only 38% are fully vaccinated, cases have increased 291% in the past two weeks, The New York Times reported.

If Greene continues to share misinformation about Covid-19 through her Twitter account, she could be suspended from the platform permanently, CNN reported.
