Controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has been temporarily banned from Twitter as House Democrats attempt to remove her from office. Greene has faced bans before following the same kind of rhetoric that landed her in political hot water, CNBC reports.

Rep. Greene’s account was suspended around 1 a.m. Friday “without explanation,” her office claims. She released a screenshot of her locked Twitter on the alternative social media platform Telegram and raised suspicions about the timing of the ban.

The gag only lasts for 12 hours, expiring just after midday Friday. In the meantime, Greene was unable to tweet, retweet or like anything.

Twitter has yet to issue a comment on the move, and it’s not clear which specific tweets triggered the ban. Greene was similarly locked out in January for spreading misinformation about the 2020 election and the coronavirus, prompting her to maintain an alternate social media account.

Meanwhile, she faces another effort to expel her from the House for spreading conspiracy theories and endorsing violence against prominent Democrats. Greene was a staunch supporter of the debunked QAnon conspiracy, and she has agreed with comments calling for violence against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and others.

"I take no joy in introducing this resolution," said Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.), the motion’s sponsor. "But any member who incites political violence and threatens our lives must be expelled. And I'll do everything I can in my power to protect our democracy and keep all my colleagues safe."

Expulsion is an incredibly rare event, and such a move faces long odds in the House. It would require a two-thirds majority to pass, unlikely given Republicans’ respectable minority and their reluctance to punish her in the past. Only five members have been expelled in the past, The Hill reports.

Only 10 Republicans joined a motion to strip her committee assignments last month, although she’s been increasingly disruptive in recent days. Colleagues are reportedly frustrated with her repeatedly forcing votes to adjourn, pulling them out of committee meetings and debate.

Greene has reliably characterized actions against her as targeted persecution for no reason beyond her representation of the people rather than the political elite, coupled with accusations of misogyny.

"There is nothing more threatening to Democrats than strong Republican Women!" Greene said in a statement on Friday. "Democrats are trying [to] overturn the will of the people who voted for both myself and Congresswoman (Mariannette Jane) Miller-Meeks (R-Texas). House Democrats have declared war on House Republican women!"
