“Captain Marvel” was the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie of 2019, but it’s far from the last. Two more Marvel Studios’ films are coming out this year, and the studio has big plans after that.

“Avengers: Endgame” — If you’ve seen “Captain Marvel,” it should’ve been obvious that this is the next release. The movie will pick up where “Avengers: Infinity War” left off. Thanos (Josh Brolin) has wiped out half the universe, and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) has called in Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) to help the remaining Avengers. It’s being called the end of a 22 movie arc, so expect some heroes’ stories to come to a close when “Endgame” is released on April 26.

“Spider-Man: Far From Home” — Clearly, some are going to survive the Snap. Peter Parker (Tom Holland) looks alive and well in the trailer for this sequel. Fury sends Peter on a mission while he’s on a European school trip. He’ll team up with Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) to fight the Elementals in the movie, out July 5.

That’s all Marvel Studios has official release dates for, but there will be more coming soon. They want to keep the focus on this year’s movies, and they’re avoiding giving away any “Avengers: Endgame” plot points. That’s why they haven’t really announced Phase 4 yet. Still, reports from trades and confirmations from producers have made it clear that the MCU has plenty of exciting films on the horizon.

“Black Widow” — Though not officially announced, reports have declared that a standalone movie is finally happening for Scarlett Johansson’s character. Cate Shortland is set to direct while Jac Shaeffer (who is credited on the “Captain Marvel” script and is set to be showrunner for “Vision and the Scarlet Witch” on Disney+) pens the screenplay. The movie is currently rumored to start filming in June.

“Doctor Strange 2” — Scott Derrickson will return to direct the sequel, which is now in development, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“Black Panther 2” — Considering it earned $1.3 billion and a few Oscars, a sequel is a no-brainer. Director Ryan Coogler is reportedly working on the script already, and production could start as early as this fall.

“Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3” — Though it’s been put on hold since director James Gunn was fired, there will eventually be a third film to finish up the “Guardians” trilogy.

“Shang-Chi” — The Marvel Cinematic Universe will keep adding new heroes. Shang-Chi is a martial arts master who is raised and trained by his father. He learns that his dad isn’t actually a humanitarian but a villain. Dave Callaham will write the movie, which will be the first MCU flick fronted by an Asian superhero, Deadline reports.

“The Eternals” — Producers have confirmed this movie is in development. It follows a group of proto-humans that underwent genetic experiments with the Celestials, thus becoming immortal.

Marvel Studios executive producer Victoria Alonso didn’t deny rumors that Marvel is introducing a gay superhero in this film — but she also didn’t confirm them. “We are going to cast the best ‘Eternals’ cast that we can and when we’re ready to announce it, we promise you we will,” she told Variety.

“Captain Marvel 2” — Technically, no one has confirmed this yet. However, with “Captain Marvel” being the sixth highest global opening weekend for a movie ever, the biggest ever opening worldwide weekend for a female-fronted film and the second biggest worldwide opening weekend for a superhero film (behind “Avengers: Infinity War”), it seems like it’s almost guaranteed.

The MCU isn’t just on the big screen anymore. Marvel Studios are working on a few limited series for Disney+. A Loki series is first up while team-ups for Vision and Scarlet Witch, as well as Winter Soldier and Falcon, are set to follow. It looks like the MCU will keep expanding in 2019 and beyond.
