The hit Amazon comedy series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” soaks in the backdrop of 1950’s Manhattan, New York. With that comes its effortless nostalgic charm of the golden-age of showbiz, complete with variety shows, lounge-music, and now, even flamboyant musicals.

Esquire reports that the newest set of episodes to hit Amazon Dec. 6 will feature more music and more performances. The season premiere has even been described as a full-on “musical,” kicking off at a USO event with Midge Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) opening up for fictional singer Shy Baldwin (Leroy McClain). As it turns out, there is a reason for the bigger focus on flashier numbers.

"My heart is in musicals,” showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino confessed to the magazine.

With a history in music and dancing, Palladino and her husband, Daniel Palladino, said they couldn’t resist paying homage to the era where showbiz flourished in a way they are passionate about. Despite that, though, that wasn’t their main priority.

“You’ve got to think about everybody’s journey,” Daniel Palladino said, referring to the fact that they couldn’t just “go bigger” this season for no real reason. Instead, they opted for seamless character beats and to ask themselves where the characters logically would be going.

The couple certainly looked for room to explore “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s” musical side, asking their producers “can we do this?” Then, as Amy joked, they never really asked but did it anyway.

"Even when we had stuff that wasn’t dancing, we had dancers," Palladino remarked about the extras they hire on set for “Maisel.” Because everywhere Midge and her manager Susie Myerson (Alex Borstein) travel, there are “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” musical-style theatrics.

Season 3 of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is available for streaming now.
