Well, fans who have been battling sleepless nights after learning about the rumored “Guardians of the Galaxy” game can now rest as Telltale Games finally put the speculation to rest by confirming the existence of the video game and even went as far as releasing its official first teaser.

At the 2016 Game Awards, Telltale announced that its rumored top-secret project was indeed the interactive episodic series based on the smash hit “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Appropriately titled “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series,” the game is expected to premiere its first episode on consoles, PC and mobile devices in 2017.

"The energizing blend of humor, emotion, teamwork, and full-on sci-fi action-adventure of the Guardians provides an enormously satisfying space to explore through Telltale’s unique style of interactive storytelling," Telltale Games Co-Founder and CEO Kevin Bruner said of the project. Bruner also revealed the plot of of the five-part adventure when he said players will be taking on multiple roles within the band of heroes in the famous franchise. No matter what role a player takes, he or she is tasked to lead the team in their journey around the universe.

Marvel Entertainment Senior Vice President for Games & Innovation Jay Ong also teased that the upcoming game will present “an original, character-driven narrative.” Ong said that for this gaming venture, Marvel chose Telltale Games because the company believes that the latter is the master storyteller that can do justice to the story Marvel creates.

Telltale’s Creative Communications Manager Laura Perusco also announced on the official Telltale website that “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series” will have a special season pass disc that includes the first episode of the series. This edition is also expected to give fans access to the other episodes once they are released and have become available for download.

Amid rumors that Telltale and Marvel are teaming up for a “Guardians of the Galaxy” game, the comic books and media publishing company confirmed in April 2015 that it was working with the video game company on multiple projects. At the time, Marvel did not reveal anything about these projects. This week, both companies did not reveal much information about them as well. They didn't even give a specific release date for “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series.” However, GearNuke is hopeful that more details about the game will surface ahead of the premiere of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” in March 2016.
