In case you were in need of more masked celebrities showing off their hidden talents for the world to guess their identities, don’t worry. Ellen DeGeneres’ own take on the “The Masked Singer” format, “The Masked Dancer,” was just greenlit by Fox and is already in development.

The original anonymous singing game show “The Masked Singer” is set up with celebrity judges who are tasked with figuring out the identities of a dozen famous contestants, all dressed up in wildly eccentric costumes with large mascot-like masks. They are usually anthropomorphic animal looks with different themes tacked on that acts as a sort of clue as to who they are.

Following the success of the Fox series comes “The Masked Dancer.” The new show is actually derived from a segment from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that is based on “The Masked Singer,” reports Entertainment Weekly. While showing off her “own version of the game” during a March 2019 episode, she joked that nothing was stopping her from doing it “because, number one: I love it; and number two, we haven’t been sued yet.”

Not much else is known about this spinoff or just how much it will compare to “The Masked Singer,” but it could offer up a bit more of a challenge. With “TMS,” viewers and judges get to at least hear the celebrities’ voices while they sing. If DeGeneres’ own segment of “The Masked Singer” spinoff show is anything to judge off of, the celebrities don’t have to venture outside the safety of their disguised voices.

“This is gonna be just as fun and suspenseful as 'The Masked Singer,' but with a lot more Krumping,” DeGeneres stated, according to the outlet.

As the show is early in development, a release date for “The Masked Singer” spinoff is unknown, but “The Masked Dancer” is definitely happening.
