Meghan Markle wore an expensive outfit amid the overspending accusations being thrown her way.

On Tuesday night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped out together at the Natural History Museum. Markle turned heads as she looked stunning in her white outfit that was similar to the one she donned when she visited the Mayhew animal welfare charity in London in January.

According to Sarah Finley, a journalist for Daily Mail, Markle’s recent dress is a custom Calvin Klein that cost $1,900. This means it’s worth 60 times more than her H&M maternity dress from last month that only retailed for $32. The two outfits are very similar in length, shape and color.

Markle’s new Calvin Klein outfit is a shorter version of a maxi dress released as part of the brand’s 205W39NYC Resort 2019 collection. In addition, the custom dress features a turtleneck design.

A few weeks ago, Markle was accused of overspending. One netizen took to Twitter to deny that the Duchess of Sussex was condemned for her heritage and feminist views.

“There are many many reasons why she is disliked, mainly dishonesty and extreme spending from clothes to renovations,” Taz81 wrote.

It was reported earlier that Markle spent $517,000 for her new clothes in 2018. The amount was almost six times more than her sister-in-law Kate Middleton’s clothing expenses — estimated to be at $87,000.

The netizen added that it is an “obscene amount of money” to spend on clothing when no other royals, including Queen Elizabeth II, splurge that much for her outfits. The Twitter user advised Markle to cut back on her wardrobe expenses by only wearing expensive dresses for state banquets.

In related news, Middleton and Markle’s one-shoulder gowns recently sparked a double standard debate. The Duchess of Cambridge was praised after wearing a one-shoulder white Alexander McQueen gown at the BAFTAs on Sunday. Markle was previously photographed wearing a similar Givenchy black gown at the British Fashion Awards, but she was criticized and called “vulgar” for doing so.

Prior to Middleton and Markle’s one-shoulder gown controversy, Princess Diana was also seen wearing the same design on multiple occasions. The late Princess of Wales’ photos wearing one-shoulder gowns recently resurfaced on Twitter.
