Meghan Markle’s extravagant lifestyle has not gone down well.

The Duchess of Sussex has made headlines due to her expensive wardrobe and luxurious baby shower in New York. According to royal biographer Angela Levin in an interview with The Conservative Woman, Markle has expensive spending habits.

“I think Meghan on occasion has been extravagant, which has not gone down well,” Levin said.

“The Queen is known to be frugal and some members of the British public have balked at a proportion of their tax going towards what they consider to be frivolity.”

Markle has received several criticisms and insults from the netizens for the same reason. One claimed that the duchess has been attacked not due to her race or status as a divorcee, but she is disliked by many because of her attitude, particularly her spending habits.

“For everyone screaming that #meghanmarkle is disliked due to her heritage and feminist views, bore off. There are many many reasons why she is disliked, mainly dishonesty and extreme spending from clothes to renovations,” an online user wrote on Twitter.

Months after marrying Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their 16-day Commonwealth tour where they visited Australia, New Zealand, Tonga and Fiji. According to Lucy Domachowski, a journalist for Daily Star, Markle’s wardrobe during the trip cost $8,447 a day.

Markle made multiple outfit changes in a day. Hello! magazine estimated her wardrobe to cost a massive $152, 199. The public was infuriated after learning the huge amount Markle spent on her outfits. One of the netizens even branded her a “national disgrace.”

Aside from this, Markle raised eyebrows again when she decided to celebrate an extravagant baby shower in New York with her close friends. For the said event, the duchess’ wardrobe reportedly cost $10,994.90 while the average U.K. salary is only $35,535.69.

In 2018, Markle topped the list of the royal wardrobes spending. Markle shed $517,000 for her new clothing which was six times more than Kate Middleton’s $87,000. At present, Markle is on maternity leave following baby Archie’s birth. The duchess will be taking fewer engagements this year, so her wardrobe spending might reduce.
