Meghan Markle’s friends hosted a lavish baby shower for her in New York City last month, but it was recently criticized by Queen Elizabeth II’s former press secretary.

Dickie Arbiter told Us Weekly that he was unimpressed with Markle’s “very American” baby shower because it’s not something that Britons do. The royal source also said that the gathering with Markle’s closest friends was a bit over the top in terms of expense and the way the Duchess of Sussex got there.

Danielle Zoellner, a journalist for Daily Mail, said that Arbiter may have been referring to the fact that Markle flew to New York from London via a private jet.

Days after the baby shower, rumors swirled that Prince Harry’s wife will have another gathering in the United Kingdom that will be hosted by Kate Middleton and attended by Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland.

“That’s something they have to answer. Meghan is American and she does things the American way,” Arbiter said.

As of late, it is still unclear whether or not rumors about another baby shower are true. But when Middleton was pregnant with her three children, she did not have the same celebration.

Meanwhile, Daniel Martin, Markle’s close friend and former makeup artist, shared details about the “Suits” alum’s first baby shower in the Big Apple. While speaking with People, Martin said that the celebration was exactly what Markle needed.

“And it was a reunion for all of us, too, who hadn’t seen each other since the wedding. Snow was falling outside, and it was so cozy – we all sat on couches or on the floor and told stories and caught up… It was like going to a family reunion,” he said.

After celebrating the upcoming arrival of her baby, Markle immediately flew back to London for her royal engagements. She is expected to go on maternity leave at the end of March and may give birth sometime at the end of April or the beginning of May.
