Meghan Markle’s Vogue gig sparked a “double standard” and “racism” debate again.

Dan Wootton appeared on ITV’s “Lorraine” and the editor was asked about the Duchess of Sussex’s recent stint with Vogue. Wootton didn’t approve of Markle’s move and said that “royals don’t guest edit magazines!”

However, royal correspondent Omid Scobie had something else to say. According to him, in a post on Twitter, Markle wasn’t the first royal to actually guest edit a magazine. Senior members of the royal family including Prince Charles, Prince Harry and even Kate Middleton already did it years ago.

The Prince of Wales co-edited Country Life magazine. The Duke of Sussex guested on BBC Radio 4 “Today” in 2017 and the Duchess of Cambridge did the same for HuffPost UK in 2016.

Markle’s fans were not happy with the backlash the Duchess of Sussex received for doing the thing that the other royals already did.

“The double standards, I mean racism, when it comes to Meghan Markle stinks,” KatieCurtis wrote.

“I was watching @danwootton describe his views on #MeghanMarkle guest editing #vouge this morning and honestly it made me cringe. This mans racism and misogyny and privilege was beaming. #gross,” Samuel Tucker wrote.

Another netizen sarcastically said that there was a typo in what Wootton said because what he really meant was “black royals don’t guest edit magazines!”

This isn’t the first time Markle was attacked for doing something that isn’t new to the royal family. In December, the Duchess of Sussex showed up at the British Fashion Awards with a black one-shoulder Givenchy gown. She was heavily criticized for her choice of outfit and was accused of breaking a royal protocol.

However, when the Duchess of Cambridge wore a one-shoulder gown when she attended the BAFTAs, a lot of netizens praised her. Many found Middleton “gorgeous.” Some even said that Prince William’s wife was a “goddess,” “stunning,” and “angelic.”

The issue irked Markle’s fans. One said that the issue with Markle’s off-the-shoulder gown with Middleton wearing the same a few days after was “racism with a splash of double standards.”
