Melania Trump’s relationship with her 13-year-old son, Barron Trump, is one of the things explored in the unauthorized book “Free, Melania.”

Author Kate Bennett revealed that one of the most consistent things about the FLOTUS is how she prioritizes her teenage son. In fact, Melania decided to delay her move to the White House so that Barron could finish an entire school year in New York first.

Earlier this year, the first lady told school kids that her role as FLOTUS and as a mom is a balancing act. But at the end of the day, Melania feels that she’s a mother first and a first lady second.

“He is at an age where he needs parents for guidance,” she said.

When President Donald Trump was elected as the president of the United States, Barron was just 9 years old. During that time, the First Lady opted to stay with her son instead of joining her husband on his political campaigns.

During her interview with "20/20," Melania said that it was her choice to not be with her husband while he was campaigning for office. But she stressed the fact that she was supportive of him.

“But we have a 9-year-old son together, Barron, and I'm raising him, and this is the age he needs a parent at home,” she said.

During a previous interview, Melania also shared some of her son’s interests. She said that Barron wanted to be a golfer, a businessman, or a pilot. And regardless of what he chooses to do when he grows up, the First Lady would support him.

The First Lady also said that she’s a very hands-on mom, who helps Barron with his assignments. She is also the one that takes him to his after-school activities. The 13-year-old is also bilingual since FLOTUS has been teaching him how to speak in Slovenian.

“My opinion is that the more languages you speak the better, but when you come to America, you speak English,” she said.
