The first lady of the United States faces a lot of pressure and every detail of her appearance can be heavily critiqued and scrutinized – especially her outfits. Case in point: Following President Donald Trump’s first address to a joint session of Congress Tuesday night, the discussion quickly turned to what Melania Trump wore – a sparkly black dress suit designed by Michael Kors. The outfit was noted as an “a-typical” option by USA Today for a conservative Congress speech.

Nonetheless, Melania Trump’s outfits have long been analyzed and lauded, and even pitted against former first lady Michelle Obama. Obama was noted for favoring lesser-known American designers and often mixed in mid-range clothing brands like J.Crew. Melania Trump, on the other hand, has worn a number of high-profile brands, opting for European labels as well as U.S. mainstays like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren.

That makes sense given her husband is the richest U.S. president ever, with a net worth of about $8.7 billion. In a statement to the New York Times earlier this month, Melania Trump’s senior adviser Stephanie Winston Wolkoff spoke to Melania Trump’s fashion options, specifically mentioning her Ralph Lauren Inauguration outfit: “Mrs. Trump buys from an international mix of brands because that is what reflects her uniquely American life experience and style. She is more excited than ever to make a platform for American designers as she did on one of the most important weeks in history, the Inauguration, showcasing the extraordinary talents of American designers.”

Regardless, it appears that Melania Trump will continue to wear both American and foreign labels for major political functions – so long as it’s designer. Here is a look at some of Melania Trump’s pricier outfits for public events.

For Donald Trump’s first address to a joint session of Congress Tuesday evening, the first lady arrived wearing a glittering black Floral Embroidered Stretch Pebble-Crepe Dinner Jacket with a matching skirt. The jacket costs $4,995 and the skirt costs $4,595.

For her husband’s final presidential debate last October, Mrs. Trump wore a Ralph Lauren Collection One-Shoulder Silk Crepe Jumpsuit in ivory. The piece retails for $3,990 at Bergdorf Goodman.

Melania Trump famously wore a hot pink pussy bow top from Gucci to the second presidential debate that had tongues wagging. The top itself cost $1,100 on Net-A-Porter.

To kick-off the first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton, the next first lady wore a black dress by Roland Mouret that retailed for $2,645 (the dress sold out online within hours after the debate, according to Us Magazine).

Last July during the Republican National Convention, Melania Trump appeared in a white, bell-sleeved “Margot” cotton and silk-blend dress from Roksanda. It retailed on Net-A-Porter for $2,195.
