Michelle Obama Spotify Podcast Sees Barack Obama Discuss Perception Of Government In Debut Episode

Wednesday marked the release of the first episode of former First Lady Michelle Obama's Spotify podcast. The new project, titled "The Michelle Obama Podcast," featured a conversation with her husband, former President Barack Obama, in its premiere installment.

Accompanying Wednesday's release, Michelle shared a snipped of the first episode on Twitter. In the below clip, Michelle and Barack discuss why young people may not have a strong handle on the government's job and the lack of structure when it comes to "marketing" its role.

During the full 48-minute discussion, the former FLOTUS and POTUS also discussed a range of topics, including their backgrounds.

After stating that his family "wasn’t the classic nuclear family," Barack shared that he still experienced a "tight-knit family" where he felt loved and supported, as reported by The Root. He then added that the feeling of closeness transcended his own household, as neighbors also sometimes felt as though they could check up on him and report his behavior back to his parents.

Calling it "a really common theme," Barack also elaborated on the aforementioned dynamic during the conversation with Michelle.

"Ms. Smith down the street, she’d see me messing up. She’d scold me … Then when I got home, I might get whooped because Ms. Smith would have called my mom," he said, as stated by Today.

Throughout the upcoming episodes of "The Michelle Obama Podcast," the "Becoming" author will also speak with other people who have helped shape her life, including her mother, brother, and some of her friends.

As for what the host hopes listeners will take away from the upcoming installments, leading up to its release she shared that her intention is to "help listeners open up new conversations—and hard conversations—with the people who matter most to them. That’s how we can build more understanding and empathy for one another."
