Miley Cyrus can be described in many ways today. The rebellious singer has an “I don’t care” attitude now and is a big advocate of freedom, but there was time when she was growing up that she felt pain and heartbreak. She shared that experience online and invited fans to share their own stories from their teenage years.

In a recent post on Twitter, Cyrus recalled what it felt like when she wrote the song “Scars.” She described it as “a lot of pain and heartbreak.” The singer said that she didn’t know where to put all that hurt at that time. In hindsight, she said that she also didn’t know at that time that she was bigger than what she was going through.

Cyrus described the hurt and pain that she went through back then as a part of growing up. “I was a young girl with more power than I knew to use for good... wish I could go back and tell me it’s gonna be ok and I was loved...” Cyrus wrote.

After sharing her personal story, Cyrus invited her fans to share their stories from their teenage years. She asked her followers to post journals, songs or videos of their stories online and promised to share those stories on her Twitter page.

Soon, the messages, pictures of old journal entries, songs, and videos came pouring in. Cyrus shared some of these stories on Twitter as promised.

One of her fans shared a journal entry from her school days when she was depressed because her “best friends” told her they can’t be friends with her anymore because she was bisexual. She tried to convince herself that she wasn’t bisexual at that time. Given a chance, the fan said that she would tell her younger self that she is worth it, and that she mattered no matter who she loved.

Another fan shared a list of her dreams that she had written down a long time ago. Some of the things that she wanted back then included starring in a film, winning an Oscar, travelling the world, getting married, having a child, donating to charity, buying her mom a house, and buying a car for her dad. The fan wrote that she would tell her younger self that she would eventually find happiness within herself.
