Police in Vermont believe they have found the body of a New York City woman who went missing over the weekend while out for a walk with her puppy. The body was retrieved from the Saxtons River in Westminster on Monday evening.

Erika Seyfried, 36, of Brooklyn, was vacationing with her husband at a picturesque riverside Airbnb rental when she went missing. The woman left with her 7-month-old golden retriever puppy for a walk Sunday but did not return.

Vermont State Police and personnel from Rescue Operation and Ambulance Service recovered a body that matched Seyfried's description Monday. Vermont State Police spokesman Adam Silverman said the body was sent for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, as well to make a positive identification, Brattleboro Reformer reported.

Police believe her death is accidental, but they will confirm the details only after the autopsy report is out. An investigation is currently underway into the incident. The dog, Seyfried, is also missing, authorities told NBC 5.

The Airbnb rental was owned by local businessman Bob Ross.

Seyfried reportedly is the vice president of Penguin Random House in New York City.

Authorities urged the public to come forward with any additional information and contact the Vermont State Police barracks in Westminster by calling 802-722-4600.

This is a developing story.
