KEY POINTS

  • Kombat Pack 2 will add playable characters Mileena, Rain, and John Rambo
  • Mileena and Rain first appeared in the "Mortal Kombat" franchise in the 1990s
  • Rambo is a unique choice but joins a couple of other action figures in the game

The second Kombat Pack for “Mortal Kombat 11” has been revealed with three characters joining the growing roster of the fighting game.

Classic fighter Mileena leads the way together with the purple-clad ninja Rain, and, confirming the recent rumor, ‘80s action hero John Rambo. Polygon has learned that Sylvester Stallone will be providing the voice of Rambo and fans of over-the-top explosive ‘80s action flicks everywhere are rejoicing with this development.

Mileena first appeared in “Mortal Kombat II” back in 1993 and has evolved from a mere palette swap of Kitana into her own twisted figure in “Mortal Kombat” circles. Like an “evil twin” to the princess, Mileena’s backstory has evolved to make her a combination of Kitana and a Tarkatan warrior, as seen in her disfigured mouth.

With her dual sai blades and unique story, Mileena was the first evil female character to appear in “Mortal Kombat” and she’s become a fan-favorite over the years. Her addition as part of Kombat Pack 2 was expected but the same can’t be said for the two others that will be coming with her.

Rain is a purple-clad ninja who was series programmer Ed Boon’s tribute to the late musician Prince. Originally appearing in 1995’s “Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3,” Rain is from the realm of Edenia like Kitana and Jade but ultimately sides with the Outworld emperor Shao Kahn against the Earthrealm.

The biggest surprise for the new pack is, without a doubt, the introduction of Vietnam War veteran John Rambo to the “Mortal Kombat” series. Like the T-800 Terminator and RoboCop before him, Rambo is emblematic of ‘80s action movies, with Stallone portraying him in five films from 1982 to 2018.

The trio is introduced in a trailer that builds off the teaser that Boon posted days prior. In a scene similar to one from Rambo’s debut in 1982’s “First Blood,” a Tarkatan warrior is shown running through the woods while something is hunting it. Appearing behind it from being in camouflage is Rain, using a katar to stab and throw the poor soul.

From behind some bushes, the Tarkatan’s severed head is then tossed in Rain’s direction by someone unseen until Mileena emerges from the shadows with her disfigured mouth and she licks her bloody sai. Mileena and Rain then engage in fierce combat, each showing off some of their moveset before the final revelation.

The back of a man with long hair is then shown as Mileena asks, “Who are you?” That is when the classic line is uttered by the man leaving no doubt that Stallone is providing the voice, “I’m your worst nightmare.” Rambo unleashes a flurry of bullets complete with his trademark scream as Kombat Pack 2 is displayed.

The new pack is arriving on Nov. 17. “Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate,” which will include the base game, Kombat Pack 1, and the Aftermath expansion pack, will be released on the same date for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows PC, and Google Stadia. The game will also be available on the next-gen PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series One.

The PlayStation Blog indicated that "Krossplay support" will feature select modes that will allow PS5 and PS4 players to fight against other players on opposite platforms.
